Use of the Robert E. Lee Monument

The Robert E. Lee Monument is located at the intersection of Monument Avenue and Allen Avenue in Richmond, Virginia. The Virginia Board of Historic Resources has placed the Robert E. Lee Statue in the Virginia Landmarks Register. The Virginia Landmarks Register includes historic landmarks, buildings, structures, districts, objects, and sites which are recognized as having historical, architectural, or archaeological significance at the local, state, or national level.

The Monument is owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia and groups must have a permit to use the grounds. Please read the Regulations for the Robert E. Lee Monument and then submit an Application at least seven days prior to the requested date.

Robert E. Lee Monument Important Information:

  • Events must be held between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00pm.
  • Events are scheduled on a first come basis.

 DEB will issue permits to approved applicants by fax or mail.  These permits will include any specific stipulations or procedures that may be necessary at the time.
