Entrance to Capitol Extension Unveiled
Artist’s Rendering Shows Entrance to New Visitor’s Center Located on 10th and Bank Streets
A new artist rendering of the Capitol extension provides Virginians with a realistic sample of what to expect once the Capitol’s extension is completed. The extension’s entrance will be located at 10th and Banks Streets and will consist of the following:
- Visitors Center - Provide an area to formally receive visitors and have a space for a gift shop and cafe.
- Exhibition Space - Provide a museum setting to display art and artifacts and exhibits about the history and the restoration of the Capitol.
- Handicapped Access - Install and provide ramps and other handicapped facilities to bring the Capitol into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Climate Control - Minimize the moisture penetration through the walls of the Capitol and provide a climate controlled environment to prevent deterioration of artwork, artifacts, and the building.
- Multi-Purpose Rooms - Provide much needed space for special meetings and other government events.
- Legislature Workspace - Provide additional workspace for the legislators and their staffs in order to adequately conduct daily business.
- Security - Enhance security systems and provide a central location for security screening to improve the safety level for visitors touring the Capitol.
- Improved Media Facilities - Provide a larger area and improved infrastructure to support progressive technology for the public media.
- Downtown Development - Connect with other visitor and tourist areas downtown by providing an easily accessible entrance for visitors exploring the center of the city.
