Last week Governor Kaine visited the Department of General Services to see how things were going and to get a better idea of the many diverse programs and projects the Department spearheads. Visiting two divisions, the Division of Purchases and Supply (DPS) and the Division of Real Estate Services (DRES), Governor Kaine was continuing a tradition that he began with city employees when he was Mayor of the City of Richmond. The Governor provided employees the opportunity to discuss what they do and to explain future initiatives.

DPS known for eVA (Virginia's total e-procurement solution) provides a host of services that makes it easier and more convenient to do business with the Commonwealth of Virginia. DRES, created to make real estate management practices more consistent with the private sector, oversees the Commonwealth's extensive portfolio of land and buildings.
