DGS Announces October 3 Public Surplus Sale
October 1, 2026
RICHMOND, Va. - The Department of General Services (DGS) will hold a one-day public surplus sale on the first floor of the James Monroe Building, offering steep discounts on office furniture.
The sale will take place on Saturday, October 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 101 N. 14th Street, Richmond, Va. 23219. Free public parking is available at 190 N. Old 14th Street, Richmond, Va. 23219. To access the parking lot, visitors should turn onto N. Old 14th Street from Broad Street and enter the first lot on the left.
Cash and credit cards will be accepted. All items are cash-and-carry and buyers are responsible for loading purchased items into their vehicles. Assistance will be available to help transport items to the loading zone.
A wide variety of items will be available, including office chairs, tables, desks, sofas, metal filing cabinets, and more. “By first making these items available to state agencies through Virginia’s surplus property program, we ensured they continued serving the Commonwealth as long as possible,” said Floyd Coburn, Surplus Property Bureau manager. “We’re now offering the remaining items to the public, creating cost-saving opportunities for the community while keeping durable materials in circulation.”
The DGS Office of Surplus Management oversees their distribution to other public bodies, eligible nonprofit organizations and, in some cases, the general public. Surplus property is typically sold online at GovDeals.com, a liquidity services marketplace that lets people explore surplus property. The platform offers everything from specialized equipment and vehicles to unexpected one-of-a-kind finds.
