OnTheSquareVA Returning with Packed Season of Events

April 17, 2026

OnTheSquareVA will return this year with a full slate of activities, expanded offerings, and a return to its home base outside of the Madison Building. The 2026 season will run from the first week of May through the end of August, bringing weekly opportunities for state employees to engage with their coworkers through recreational, educational, and social events.

Tuesdays will feature five food trucks (up from three last year), giving state employees more variety and more reasons to step outside for lunch. Wednesdays will offer a mixture of in‑person and virtual events, with everything from wellness sessions to appearances by a few furry friends. Thursdays will continue to host the Farmers Market, bringing fresh produce and local vendors to Capitol Square.

A few highlights from this season’s Wednesday programming include:

  • Richmond SPCA adoption awareness and a wish‑list donation drive
  • Bike to Work Week activities with the Office of the First Gentleman
  • Mindfulness webinars with UVA’s Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • VMFA and Library of Virginia programs, including art talks and special tours
  • Virginia Commission for the Arts Pop-up with a screen-printing truck, embroidery workshop and live music

This year’s OnTheSquareVA season offers something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to learn, relax, get active, or simply enjoy a good lunch outdoors, there’s plenty to look forward to.
