DGS to Hold One-Day Public Surplus Sale on May 30

May 20, 2026

The Department of General Services (DGS) is opening its Darbytown Road warehouse to the public for a one-day surplus sale offering steep discounts on office furniture, building materials, and unique items from state facilities.

The sale will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1910 Darbytown Road, Richmond, Va. 23231. Cash and credit cards will be accepted. All items are cash-and-carry and buyers are responsible for moving and transporting their purchases.

A wide variety of items will be available, including office chairs, tables, desks, sofas, metal filing cabinets and lockers, clothing, sunglasses, and more. The warehouse sale will also feature an expanded selection of surplus goods, including building materials, jewelry, hats, and grab-bag lots, offering shoppers plenty of additional items to explore.

“The furniture available at the state surplus sale was initially offered to state agencies through Virginia’s surplus property program, allowing those items to continue serving the Commonwealth,” said Floyd Coburn, Surplus Property Bureau Manager. “Now we’re making the remaining items available to the public, providing meaningful savings to the community and keeping durable furniture in circulation instead of disposal,” Coburn added.

The DGS Office of Surplus Property Management oversees their distribution to other public bodies, eligible nonprofit organizations and, in some cases, the general public. Surplus property is typically sold online at GovDeals.com, a liquidity services marketplace that lets people explore surplus property. The platform offers everything from specialized equipment and vehicles to unexpected one-of-a-kind finds.
