STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS REVIEW

As set forth in the 2019 Appropriation Act, the Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) is conducting a review of Virginia law and best practices as it relates to the statute of limitations on state contracts for construction services. DGS will submit a report on its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by December 31, 2019.

DGS collaborated with the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to develop a survey for identified stakeholders. The survey was sent to over 1,500 stakeholders, and more than 500 responses were received.

Additionally, DGS hosted meetings on Oct. 1 and 3 with stakeholders, including state/local governments and higher education; bond and insurance companies; architects and engineers; and construction contractors.
