DCLS Method
Determination of EDB and DBCP in drinking water by iquid-liquid extraction and GC with ECD
Reference Method
EPA 551.1
Test Description
Sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) and methyl tert-butyl ether (MtBE) are added to the sample and the container is shaken to mix the contents. The volatile fumigants are extracted into the MtBE. The MTBE layer is identification and concentration determined with a dual column Gas Chromatograph (GC) equipped with electron capture detectors (ECDs).
Sample Collection
Samples are collected in duplicate in 60 ml screw top, VOA vials with PTFE septa, preserved with a Phosphate/Ammonium Chloride buffer / de-chlorinating mixture to preserve and adjust pH to 4.5 - 5.5.
Storage Guidelines
The samples are stored in a refrigerator in the analytical lab area where they are kept between 0 to 6ÂșC until analysis.
