ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING CATALOG SM 2340 B

DCLS Method

Determination of cations and ammonia by suppressed ion chromatography. It is also used to calculate hardness in drinking water.

Reference Method

SM 2340 B

Test Description

Hardness is calculated by a mathmatical formula which uses the concentration of calcium and magnessium present in a water sample and determined through suppressed ion chromatography.

Sample Collection

Samples should be preserved to a pH of ≤2, and cations are typically preserved with nitric acid.

Storage Guidelines

Store samples at ≤4 degrees celcius but not frozen.
