ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING CATALOG SM 5310 C
DCLS Method
Total and disolved organic carbon, persulfate
Reference Method
SM 5310 C
Test Description
Following the removal of inorganic carbon, organic carbon is oxidized to carbon dioxide (CO2) in the presence of Persulfate, heat and Ultraviolet Light. The CO2 is then detected by a non-dispersive infrared detector.
Sample Collection
Collect approximately 40 ml of representative sample in a glass vial sealed with TFE-backed septa preserved with H2SO4 to < = pH 2.
Storage Guidelines
Samples must be cooled to <= 4 °C after collection, and preferably shipped to the lab within 24 hours. If samples will not be analyzed within 24 hours after collection, then store samples at <=4 °C for up to 28 days following collection.
