Ultraviolet Absorption at 254 nm
Reference Method
SM 5910 B
Test Description
UV254 is a water quality test parameter that provides a quick measurement of the organic matter in water. The measurement technique works by directing ultraviolet light (UV) light at 254 nm through a quartz cell that contains a representative water sample.
Sample Collection
Collect aqueous samples in amber glass bottles that have been washed, thoroughly rinsed with organic-free water, and baked at 400 °C for 1 hour. Seal with tetrafluoroethylene lined caps. Pre-cleaned containers from commercial vendors may be used.
Storage Guidelines
Adjust sample pH if not between 4 and Samples analyzed for SUVA determination should be run without adjusting the pH of the original sample Store samples at 0 - 4 °C and analyze within 48 hours.
