ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING CATALOG VOCS EPA 524.2
DCLS Method
Volatile organic compounds in water by purge and trap capillary column GCMS
Reference Method
EPA 524.2
Test Description
Samples are introduced into the purging device via an autosampler, where volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are trapped on a special adsorbant material called a trap. The trap is heated to release the VOCs into the Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS). The GC/MS instrument separates, identifies and determines a concentration for any VOCs that are present.
Sample Collection
Duplicate 40mL clear glass Volatile Organic Analysis (VOA vials), preserved to a pH of <2 with 1:1 HCl and ascorbic acid.
Storage Guidelines
The samples are stored in a refrigerator in the analytical lab area where they are kept between 0 to 6ÂșC until analysis.
