Description
Qualitative detection of recently generated West Nile virus (WNV) or Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus IgY antibodies in serum of infected sentinel chickens. This will provide data needed to determine the incidence of WNV or EEE infection during each Arboviral season.
Specimen Types
- Whole brachial blood
- Serum
Sample Volume / Collection Container
5 mL of whole brachial blood or serum in a serum separator tube (SST).
Collection and Storage Guidelines
Samples should be stored at 2 to 8°C until shipment and must be received within 120 days from collection. If a delay is anticipated (over 120 days from collection), serum must be separated from the clot and stored at -20°C or lower.
Transportation Instructions
Samples should be shipped with frozen cold packs.

Causes for Rejection
- Samples that are severely hemolyzed, lipemic, bacterially contaminated, or broken in transit.
- The identification on the submission form and sample(s) do not match.
- Quantity of sample is less than 500 μL.
