SARS-COV-2 TOTAL SEROLOGY
Laboratory: Immunology/Virology
Test Description: The Atellica® IM SARS-CoV-2 Total (COV2T) assay is a chemiluminescent immunoassay intended for qualitative detection of total antibodies (including IgG and IgM) to SARS-CoV-2 in human serum using the Atellica® IM Analyzer.
Specimen Type: Human serum collected in a serum separator tube is preferred; however, whole blood collected in a red top tube is also acceptable.
Optimal Volume: The optimal specimen volume of serum is 5mL and the minimum specimen volume is 1mL.
Collection Guidelines: When possible, blood should be centrifuged prior to shipment to separate blood cells from serum.
Storage Instructions: Store serum between 2 -8°C if testing will take place within 8 days of collection. If specimens are to be kept for longer than 8 days, store serum at < -20°C.
Transportation Instructions: Ship samples on frozen cold packs or if samples are frozen, ship on dry ice.
Test Methodology: Chemiluminescent immunoassay
Causes For Rejection:
- If the identification on the specimen submission form and tube does not match.
- Quantity of sample is insufficient for testing.
- Specimen is severely hemolyzed, lipemic, broken or leaking in transit are unacceptable.
- The specimens received exceeded 8 days from known date of collection if stored between 2 -8°C.
- The submitter confirms specimens were maintained under improper storage conditions.
