The Virginia State Capitol Alert Network, or VSCAN, is the primary source of emergency notification used by the Division of Capitol Police (DCP) in and around the Capital District. VSCAN is owned and operated by DCP and individual accounts are free to all tenant personnel located in state-managed facilities in and around Capitol Square.
VSCAN alerts are most effective when a user has multiple means of communication assigned to their account. DGS and DCP encourage all tenants to provide as many communication options as possible, including state email address, office phone number, mobile phone number, and personal email address. The more options that are provided in the VSCAN system, the more ways there are for account holders to receive timely notification from DCP during an emergency or significant event on Capitol Square.
